Harpy Eagles

Harpy Eagle is usually a substantial bird of prey that lives in lowland tropical forests. Harpy eagles inhabit southern Mexico, eastern Bolivia, southern Brazil, and northern Argentina. Harpies weigh over10 pounds and stand 3 feet tall. Their wingspread reaches 7 feet. The harpy eagle's head and neck are gray, its chest is black, and its underparts are white. A long black crest covers the back in the head. A huge black beak and huge yellow feet distinguish the bird.

This strong eagle utilizes its strength to capture monkeys, sloths, opossums, and porcupines. Harpies put together substantial stick nests in tall trees. Mating pairs only breed every other yr in addition to the female lays 1 or two eggs. Harpy eagles are named soon after the "flying monsters" in ancient Greek and Roman mythology.
